Our Floor Soundproofing Solutions

Acoustic Rockwool with sand filled acoustic boards

Breakdown of Solution:
If you are struggling with airborne noise from below but wish to maintain floor height, our Sand-Filled Acoustic Boards combined with high-density Rockwool provide a highly effective solution. This combination significantly reduces airborne noise such as talking, televisions, and music through floors and ceilings. For enhanced soundproofing, Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) can be added, increasing floor height by only 5mm. The system is compatible with most floor finishes, offering a practical and high-performance solution for residential and commercial spaces.

Floor Soundproofing Solutions 6

Structural Acoustic Floor Solution

Breakdown of Solution:
For those seeking a high-performance acoustic floor system, particularly during a floor replacement or home renovation, our Acoustic Direct-to-Joists Floor Solution is ideal. The existing floor covering is removed to expose the floor joists. 100mm of high-density acoustic and fire-rated mineral wool is then installed between the joists to provide excellent sound absorption and fire safety.

The structural flooring is installed either directly onto the joists or over joist isolation strips for enhanced impact noise reduction. The floor is glued rather than fixed, creating a fully floating floor that maximises both acoustic performance and structural flexibility. Meets PART E REGULATION

Floor Soundproofing Solutions 5

high density acoustic Floor Underlay

Breakdown of Solution:
For a simple yet effective acoustic floor upgrade, our 15mm high-density rubber acoustic underlay is ideal for carpets or wooden floors. This underlay reduces both impact and airborne noise in a single solution.

For optimal performance, we recommend lifting the existing flooring and installing a layer of 100mm high-density acoustic and fire-rated mineral wool between the floor joists to prevent noise reverberation and enhance overall soundproofing efficiency.

Impact Noise Reduction:

  • Rubber mats or acoustic underlay: These products are designed to absorb vibrations and reduce impact noise. They are effective for minimizing the sounds of footsteps, furniture movement, and other contact-related noises.
  • However, these solutions are typically not as effective for airborne noise, like conversations or music, that travel more freely through the air.

Airborne Noise Reduction:

  • For airborne noise from your downstairs neighbours, we use acoustic floor insulation. By installing high-quality soundproofing insulation between the floor joists, we can significantly reduce noise transfer between floors in both houses and flats.
  • This method works by creating a barrier that absorbs sound vibrations and prevents them from traveling through the building structure.
