OUR CEILING SOUNDPROOFING SOLUTIONS

Sound Resonating Bars

Breakdown of Solution:
If ceiling height loss is a concern, our Sound Resonating Bar System offers an effective and space-efficient solution. The existing ceiling is removed, and the joist void is filled with high-density acoustic and fire-rated mineral wool to enhance sound absorption and fire safety. Sound resonating bars are then installed to decouple the ceiling structure, followed by two layers of acoustic plasterboard. All joints and perimeters are sealed with high-performance Fire & Acoustic Sealant to ensure optimal soundproofing and fire protection.

Upgrades : Mass Loaded Vinyl & Green Glue can be added

Type C Acoustic Hangers

Breakdown of Solution:
If you can afford to lose some ceiling height, the Acoustic Type C Hanger System is an excellent choice for achieving superior sound insulation. Keeping the existing ceiling in place provides an additional noise barrier, helping reduce overall sound transmission. Removing the ceiling can increase noise levels, meaning the new system would need to work harder to achieve the same results.

The Acoustic Type C Hangers are installed at a rate of four per square metre, with battens securely fixed to the hangers. Finally, two layers of high-density acoustic plasterboard are fitted and all joints are sealed with premium Fire & Acoustic Sealant, ensuring maximum performance in both soundproofing and fire safety.

Independent Ceiling where space loss isn’t an issue

Breakdown of Solution:
If ceiling height loss is not a concern, the Independent Ceiling System is our ultimate soundproofing solution. This method involves installing a fully independent timber frame structure slightly below the existing ceiling, completely decoupling the new ceiling from the original to eliminate direct noise transmission paths.

The new frame is then filled with high-density acoustic and fire-rated mineral wool for enhanced sound absorption and fire safety. Sound resonating bars are fitted to further isolate the structure, followed by two layers of acoustic plasterboard. All joints and perimeters are sealed with premium Fire & Acoustic Sealant, ensuring maximum soundproofing performance and long-term durability.

Genie Clips – current Ceiling Remains. can also be installed to concrete ceilings

Breakdown of Solution:
An excellent alternative to the Acoustic Type C Hanger System is the GenieClip Ceiling Solution. If you can afford to lose approximately 3 inches of ceiling height and are experiencing higher levels of impact noise than airborne noise, this system is highly effective.

GenieClips are installed at a rate of four per square metre, and metal furring channels are then fixed to the clips to create a fully decoupled ceiling structure. A 50mm layer of high-density acoustic and fire-rated mineral wool is fitted between the channels to absorb sound and improve fire resistance. Finally, two layers of high-density acoustic plasterboard are installed and all joints and perimeters are sealed with premium Fire & Acoustic Sealant, providing superior sound insulation and long-lasting performance.

Independent genie clip system – current ceiling remains. Timber or concrete ceilings

Breakdown of Solution:
An effective alternative to the full Independent Ceiling System with sound resonating bars is to upgrade the design by incorporating GenieClips. This enhancement delivers a significant improvement in impact noise reduction while only requiring a few additional centimetres of ceiling height.

This system is particularly popular in older Victorian properties, where ceiling heights are typically generous, allowing for maximum acoustic performance without compromising space. All other materials and installation methods remain the same, ensuring exceptional soundproofing and fire safety standards.

Independent Genie Clips with acoustic sand filled boards

Breakdown of Solution:
We have enhanced the Independent GenieClip Ceiling System by incorporating acoustic sand-filled boards, delivering exceptional performance in reducing both impact and airborne noise. All other materials and installation methods remain the same, ensuring reliable soundproofing, fire safety, and long-lasting results for residential and commercial properties.

Upgrades : Mass Loaded Vinyl and Green Glue can be added

How Does Ceiling Soundproofing Work?

Many homes and buildings are constructed with plasterboard or lathe and plaster ceilings fixed onto wooden ceiling joists, with a floorboard or chipboard layer above. This creates a cavity or void between the ceiling and floor, which can be filled with specialized soundproofing materials to block out noise.

At West Sussex Soundproofing, we provide a range of professional soundproofing methods to reduce airborne noise transmission through your ceiling, such as:

These methods not only improve the acoustic insulation of your property but also meet current building regulations for both new builds and converted properties.
